NYC Manufacturers Celebrate Manufacturing Day

The Industrial + Technology Assistance Corporation (ITAC) is the NYC Center for the National Institute of Standards (NIST) Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), a federal program dedicated to reinvigorating U.S. manufacturing will join NYC manufacturers in celebration of National Manufacturing Day today.

The nonprofit consulting organization is partnering up with the Brooklyn Navy Yard, DFM Summit, Maker Faire, GoGreen, NY3DP, Made in NYC and others to host events that celebrate positive growth in local manufacturing.

"The NYC manufacturing industry has made great strides since the beginning of the recession," says Sara Garretson, president of ITAC. "We're proud to honor and spread awareness of all the manufacturers that have made our city more prosperous."

According to the National Association of Manufacturers, manufacturers employ 5.3% of the state's workforce.

According to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, manufacturing growth has steadily improved during the third quarter of this year. There are also reports of a spike in new orders and shipments that encourage forecasters to predict future manufacturing growth.

NYC businesses have already held numerous events in anticipation of Manufacturing Day, such as the Hardware Innovation Workshop, 4th Annual World Maker Faire, Design for Manufacturing Summit, GoGreen NYC Conference and NY3DP Summits.

On Manufacturing Day, several NYC manufacturing firms, including GAL Manufacturing, will be hosting groups of young adults on factory tours. Other events include the Brooklyn Navy Yard (BNY) Factory Tours, BNY Pinwheel Making activity and the Made in NYC Social Media Manufacturing Day Campaign.

ITAC strengthens the local economy by identifying challenges within manufacturing and technology companies and providing innovative solutions for improvement. They offer programs and services including Innovation Engineering, Business Growth, Lean Manufacturing, Food Manufacturing and Technology.
