ByJohn S. McClenahen Figuring that more international businesses will need executives with superior leadership skills, IMD (International Institute for Management Development) is revamping its full-time M.B.A. program to include, among other features, group leadership experiences and the creation of virtual learning networks. Beginning with the January 2002 class at the Lausanne, Switzerland-based business school, M.B.A. students will be sent to "a country decimated by conflict" to analyze the critical issues and actions being taken by leaders of business, government and society as they try to rebuild the economy. In addition, students are to create and lead virtual networks, with M.B.A. teams moderating discussions, organizing online events and synthesizing information. Applying entrepreneurial skills to companies large and small, and managing the sometimes-conflicting interests of various stakeholders (including the financial community and the media) also are part of the revamped curriculum.
