The average pay rate for temporary workers in 1997 climbed to $10.11 an hour; that's a 33.7% increase from just three years ago, says the National Assn. of Temporary and Staffing Services. Its recent survey also found that compared with 1994, a higher percentage -- 41% to 33% -- had graduated from at least a two-year college. Nearly three out of four temporary workers say that their temp experience has helped them enhance their resumes, acquire new skills and become more employable.
