Compiled ByMichael Verespej In an effort to keep employees, nearly 40% of companies now make an effort to place key workers somewhere else in the organization rather than lose them to a job offer from the outside. "Good people leave because they feel blocked or stifled and think the only way to advance and gain new expertise is to take a new job offer," says David Erdman, president and CEO of BT.Novations, a consulting firm in Memphis. "Redeployment--a novelty 10 years ago--is now an emerging strategy [that organizations use] to retain top talent, even if it means an individual performer would be lost by the immediate supervisor." BT's survey also found that 55% of companies now provide employees with opportunities for further professional development and training in an effort to improve retention of skilled employees.
