April Semiconductor sales in the Asia-Pacific market increased 4.1% over the previous month, offsetting decreased sales in the American, Japanese, and European markets, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association(SIA).

"We're seeing the beginnings of a recovery in [the Asia-Pacific] market," says Doug Andrey, SIA director of information systems and finance. "The explosion in Internet use will generate increased demand for personal computers and networking integrated circuits."

Worldwide semiconductor sales in April exceeded $10.38 billion, however this is a 6.8% drop from the $11.14 billion in sales recorded during April of last year. In addition, worldwide digital signal processor sales grew 33.6% in 1997; SIA expects an increase of 23% in 1998.
