Recovering from a down economy in the early 1990s following deep defense-industry cutbacks, Los Angeles County, Calif. posted the most job gains of any county in the U.S. in 1995, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau. The county had a net gain of 102,711 new employees over its 1994 level, the Commerce Dept. unit reports. Three other counties in the Southwest followed: Harris County, Texas (up 89,386 jobs), Maricopa, Ariz. (up 76,056), and Dallas (up 73,419). Rounding out the top 10 in job growth were Cook, Ill.; Clark, Nev.; Orange, Calif.; Fulton, Ga.; Hennepin, Minn.; and Santa Clara, Calif.
