Complied ByDeborah Austin To shorten time and reduce cost of information exchange partnerships across the manufacturing supply web, the National Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (NEMI) has introduced the first of a new suite of standards. The product data exchange (PDX) standards were developed by NEMI's Virtual Factory Information Interchange Project. PDX will be formally standardized through IPC -- the U.S.-based trade association for the electronic interconnection industry -- a source for industry standards, training, and public policy advocacy. The IPC standardization process kicked off Oct. 16. The initial PDX standards involve:
  • Generic requirements for supply-chain communication.
  • Requirements for supply-chain communication of as-built product data.
  • Requirements for product-design configuration. NEMI is an industry-led consortium of electronics manufacturers, suppliers, associations, government agencies, and universities.
