Compiled ByDeborah Austin Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) and NEC Corp. plan an alliance to jointly provide information technology (IT) related outsourcing services to enterprise customers -- first targeting global customers based in China, Japan and the U.S., and later expanding to regions including Southeast Asia and Europe. The plans include a joint marketing team to develop and market new service offerings. The outsourcing services -- tailored to customer needs -- would range from selective managed services to comprehensive outsourcing: In the latter scenario, the alliance would take over the customer's IT assets and associated human resources. Products/solutions provider HP, Palo Alto, Calif., brings to the mix its service management methodology and global support structure; broadband network/mobile Internet solutions provider NEC, Tokyo, offers outsourcing services experience and development/operation of open, mission-critical systems.
