In The Work of Teams, a new book published by Harvard Business School Press, editor Jon R. Katzenbach has assembled articles on how to create and manage effective workplace teams. Taken from the Harvard Business Review, articles were written by experts such as former U.S. Labor Secretary Robert Reich and Kim B. Clark, dean of the faculty at Harvard Business School. The contributors examine the context for, the alternatives to, and the conditions that surround and encourage -- or inhibit -- the work of teams. The book also offers practical advice for overcoming the problems that can derail the best work groups. Katzenbach, a director at McKinsey & Co. Inc., says in his introduction that collaboration and cooperation are important objectives in teamwork, but improved results are the only true measures for successful teams.
