Chemical Production Jumps in 2014

The chemical production industry in the U.S. accounted for $812 billion in revenue for 2014.

Chemical production in the U.S jumped in December adding to November’s upward swing.

The latest numbers from the U.S. Chemical Production Index show a year-end gain of 0.8%. For 2014, chemical production was up 5.3% year over year.

The American Chemistry Council reports the following chemicals  leading the way are: organic chemicals, chlor-alkali, synthetic rubber, coatings, synthetic dyes and pigments, industrial gases, consumer products, pesticides, adhesives and pharmaceuticals.

The industry has seen declines throughout 2014 in the production of fertilizers, plastic resins, synthetic fibers, acids, and other inorganic chemicals.

The manufacturing industry helped set the pace for chemical production in the areas of motor vehicles, construction materials, machinery, computers and electronics, structural panels, paper, printing, plastic and rubber products, apparel and furniture.

That’s despite an overall dip in manufacturing for December.
