What made you decide to pursue a career in manufacturing?

I was a 22-year-old kid who needed a job and wanted to stay in my hometown. Ditch Witch was an up-and-coming company, and I wanted to work there. Ditch Witch is a manufacturing company that makes a range of products from small walk-behind trenchers to large self-propelled drilling machines that can bore through solid rock. It employs over 1,500 people today and sells products worldwide. I had no idea that I would make a career at DW. 

Manufacturing is a fantastic place to learn and create something new. There are thousands of processes that take place every day. Nothing is static; everything is constantly changing. DW has started a lean journey and has become an even more exciting place to work.   

What does your job entail? 

My job is about helping employees change their way of thinking about the work that they do to continually pursue perfection in their methods or processes.

What is the most interesting part of your job? Your proudest moment?

There is always something new and challenging to do. My proudest moment? When I can help employees improve their process, and they learn how to do it themselves.

What do you love about manufacturing?

It’s about the process of turning steel and a variety of components into something of value for our customers. Manufacturing is about creating something new and exciting. 

What advice would you give to kids considering a job in manufacturing? 

Soak up every bit of knowledge you can. It can be fun. Watch, listen, and learn!
