That's a big question to ask and one IndustryWeek Editor-in-chief Robert Schoenberger took on with a little help from the recently released 2024 IndustryWeek U.S. 500, IW's annual ranking of the 500 largest U.S.-based, publicly held manufacturing companies based on revenue.
The answer to the question of how manufacturing is doing? Well, it's complicated. That's perhaps an unsatisfying response, but when you think about the vast number of industries manufacturing straddles—from food processing and assembling wind turbines to producing pharmaceuticals or plastic parts—there is no one-size-fits-all response.
