Small to medium size enterprises (SMEs) are preparing to invest more in IT this year, according to new data from market research group NPD.
The technology report reveals that more than 60% of SMEs will spend more on their IT infrastructure over the course of 2010, the vast majority of which cited a need for more hardware as the key to their future success.
The research found 80% of respondents plan to buy more PCs as a significant step toward upgrading their IT systems. NPD says this may lead to more firms signing IT outsourcing agreements.
In a signal that the economy is stabilizing within SME IT departments, only 23% of firms polled said they planned to reduce PC spending for the year. A similar report released last week by Gartner estimated that worldwide enterprise IT spending across all sectors will rise by 4.1% in 2010.
