NASA Program Helps Smaller Manufacturers in Ohio

Small to medium-sized companies ranging from an environmentally friendly coatings manufacturer to a maker of high-performance nano-titanium are the recipients of loans and expert support from the Adopt a City program.

Eight small-to-midsize manufacturers in Northeast Ohio are the winners of loans and expert support from NASA to help solve challenges they are experiencing with a new or existing product.

The awards are part of Cuyahoga County’s Adopt a City Program, in partnership with the city of Cleveland, NASA Glenn Research Center, and the Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network (MAGNET).

NASA Glenn will provide up to 40 hours of pro bono assistance to each company. The city of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County will make low interest loans available to companies that need financial assistance. And MAGNET will serve as the project coordinator, helping the following eight manufacturers in 2016.

The latest winning companies and the products they manufacture are:

  • AlSher, high-performance nano-titanium and composite materials for industrial applications
  • Arzel Zoning Technology Inc., HVAC zoning systems for retrofit and new construction
  • Enerco Group Inc.; consumer, commercial and construction heating products 

  • Health-Mor Inc., floor care and air cleaner products
  • Hunt Imaging, electrostatic dry toners and ink jets
  • Infinite Arthroscopy Inc., Ltd., arthroscopic surgery innovations (in development)
  • NSL Analytical Services Inc., commercial materials testing
  • Sustainable Coatings Inc., environmentally friendly industrial coatings

Since its beginnings in 2012, the program has helped 14 companies with challenges ranging from flaws in production to product optimization, leading to the creation and retention of 59 jobs in the region. Adopt a City has also generated more than $6.1 million in revenue, resulting in $831,000 in cost savings and over 752,000 units sold.
