Bend (Norms) Like Betty: Hire Your Next Betty White

Inside every older candidate could be a Betty White ready to shine.
Sept. 30, 2014

Liz D'Aloia, founder of HR Virtuoso Company, a mobile recruiting company, challenges hiring standards in her recent post on LinkedIn.

She asks, "If television networks aren’t afraid to hire a 91-year-old to star in a show, why are recruiters afraid to hire workers over 50?"

D'Aloia argues that older workers are just as likely to be willing to push boundaries and to bring energy into the workplace as younger candidates, but are overlooked because of their age.

"Betty White is older than sliced bread. Really. Betty White was born 6 years before sliced bread was invented. And she sure isn’t stale!" D'Aloia writes. "So, the next time an older, experienced candidate is available, please take a hard look at him or her. You might just be hiring your next award-winning performer."

D'Aloia's complete post, "Get Hired Like Betty White," originally appeared on LinkedIn, as part of the LinkedIn Influencers program.
