The Timken Co. on Dec. 9 announced that it is supplying anti-friction bearings to SMS Demag AG for installation in a plate mill and slab caster under construction for one of Russia's largest steelmakers. The order is valued at more than $2 million.
Timken spherical and tapered roller bearings will be installed in a 5-meter (16-foot) plate mill and slab caster under construction for the operator of the largest steel plant in Russia. The steel producer provides about 20% of all the steel consumed in the domestic Russian market.
The slab caster and roll tables will incorporate Timken high-capacity spherical roller bearings. In addition, tapered roller bearings will be installed on the work and back-up rolls of the heavy plate mill.
