Chicago Manufacturer a Finalist for National Small Business Award
Schaumberg, Ill.-based Quality Float Works Inc. is one of seven finalists for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Dream Big Small Business award, the company said March 15.
The maker of float metal balls and valves was the only manufacturer named a finalist for the award that honors a winner each year based on criteria that include, staff training and motivation, community involvement, customer service and business strategies and goals.
All participants in the contest had fewer than 250 employees and gross revenues of $20 million or less in 2008. The 2010 finalists were selected from the Chamber's 75 Blue Ribbon Small Business Award winners.
The winner of the award will receive a $10,000 cash prize from Sam's Club, which Quality Float Works intends to donate to its employees if it's named the winner, the company said.
"I am a concept without my employees," said Sandra Westlund-Deenihan, president and design engineer of Quality Float Works. "I'd love to reward them with not only the honor, but also the prize money."
