Rolls-Royce Wins Contract for Russia's Nord Stream Project
Rolls-Royce said on Dec. 30 it had won a contract from Russian gas giant Gazprom to supply pumping equipment for the Nord Stream pipeline linking Russia with western Europe.
"Rolls-Royce has been awarded a contract from Gazkomplectimpex, a subsidiary of Gazprom, the world's largest gas company ... for the new 1,200 kilometer (890 miles) Nord Stream gas pipeline from Russia to Europe," the British company said.
The Nord Stream gas pipeline is a partnership between Russia's state-owned gas monopoly Gazprom and German giants E.On and BASF-Wintershall.
It will run from Russia's Baltic port of Vyborg to Greifswald, in northern Germany, delivering gas to the European Union, bypassing countries such as Ukraine, Belarus and Poland whose relations with Moscow have been strained.
The pipeline is due to be built between 2009 and 2011.
