Hyundai Motor Group enters agreement to build its first dedicated full EV and battery manufacturing facilities in the U.S.

Hyundai Motor Group announced Friday, May 20, it has entered into an agreement with the State of Georgia to build full electric vehicle and battery manufacturing facilities in Bryan County, aiming to become a leader in electric mobility in the U.S. The investment in the EV plant comes as part of the group’s 2021 announcement to foster future mobility in the U.S. by investing $7.4 billion by 2025.

The facilities represent an investment of approximately $5.54 billion. With plans to break ground in early 2023, the new facility is expected to begin commercial production in the first half of 2025 with an annual capacity of 300,000 units. The battery manufacturing facility will be established through a strategic partnership, with the details to be disclosed at a later stage.

With details of production models to be shared at a later date, the group plans to produce a wide range of full EVs for U.S. customers at the new plant. The group strives to create a human-centered work environment where robots assist the human workers. The intelligent manufacturing plant plans to become optimized by using AI and data.

With immediate access to I-95 and I-16 highways, the EV and battery manufacturing plant will be located on a dedicated 2,923-acre site. The site was selected due to its favorable business conditions and existing network of the group affiliates and suppliers. According to the group, the project is expected to create about 8,100 new jobs.

The group has a global target to sell $3.23 million full EVs annually by 2030. To complement the group’s electrification efforts and meet RE100 requirements, the new plant will mainly rely on renewable energy sources and will use emission-reduction technologies.
