The School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology announced the appointment of Chelsea (Chip) C. White III as the Schneider National Chair in Transportation and Logistics. The chair, which was announced on January 26, will provide undergraduate and graduate instruction as well as research. Students will have the opportunity to conduct programs in the logistics and supply chain management area with special emphasis on problems of carriers and shippers.

"The newly created Chair will bring a new level of visibility and permanence to the study of logistic engineering, " says Christopher Lofgren, Ph.D., president and CEO of Schneider National. Schneider, located in Green Bay, Wis. is a provider of transportation, logistics and related services.

Dr. White earned his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in computer, information and control engineering. He served as professor of Industrial and Operations Engineering and Electric Engineering and Computer Science. He was also director of the Intelligent Transportation Systems Research Center at the University of Michigan.
