U.S. and European demand for RFID in the manufacturing sector will push the market for RFID applications to $6 billion by 2010, according to a report, "RFID in Manufacturing Sector (2005)", by Research and Markets, a Dublin-based research firm.
The predominant usage of RFID is in logistics, supply chain operations and asset tracking. Availability of low-cost sensors and frequency tags will determine if RFID can truly become a competitive factor for companies investing in the technology.
According to the report the manufacturing industries that will drive RFID expenditure over the next three years are pharmaceutical, consumer packaged goods and automotive.
