Should We Be Afraid?

Dec. 13, 2016
Are robots really going to take our jobs? Or will they actually create better conditions in the labor market.

Anyone can afford a robot nowadays. Baxter from Rethink Robotics for example only costs $25.000. One can say “only” because this is equivalent to paying a full-time human worker $4 an hour over the lifetime of the machine. Considering this and the fact that robots are never going to leave for vacation or won’t complain because of the work conditions, they become the perfect employee. Therefore many experts fear that robots will take over most jobs within the next 30 years, which would send unemployment rates through the roof. Some statistics indicate though that there is no reason to be concerned. In fact, robots might create better conditions in the labor market.
