Moroccan Car Sales Up

Kia Motors is most popular manufacturer

Auto sales in Morocco jumped 17% in 2008 over the previous year, even as the economic downturn sent sales slumping almost everywhere else, the auto importers association announced on Jan. 13.

While Moroccan sales slowed during the last quarter, 121,511 cars were purchased here last year, compared to 103,783 in 2007 thanks, analysts say, to promotions and credit-card purchases.

Imports dominated, amounting to two-thirds of all cars sold in 2008, with South Korea's Kia Motors the favored manufacturer.
