Con-Way Transportation Services Inc. wants its customers to increase their use of electronic commerce. To that end, the trucking and logistics company has announced an incentive payment to all less-than-truckload shippers that submit electronic bills of lading via the Con-Way Web site, www.con-way.com. The $2-per-shipment incentive is effective Oct. 1 through March 31, 2004. "E-business is a fact of life in the new millennium," says Gerald L. Detter, Con-Way president and chief executive officer. "This incentive offer is our way of further demonstrating commitment in this arena>' Con-Way says customers must be registered users of its Web site to qualify for the incentive. Additionally, all electronic bills of lading must be submitted by 2 p.m. at the location where the shipment will be picked up, with the shipment ready for pickup by 5 p.m. that same day. Electronic data interchange and file transfer protocol transactions are not eligible for the incentive, which will appear as an invoice deduction after net negotiated pricing is applied. Con-Way is a subsidiary of Palo Alto, Calif.-based CNF Inc.
