Global Healthcare Exchange (GHX) has introduced a Web-based order-processing tool that targets smaller, niche health-care suppliers. Called WebDirect, it allows suppliers to transact business electronically with their customers through a single connection. The Internet-based system allows suppliers to receive electronic purchase orders and transmit purchase-order acknowledgements in an EDI (electronic data interchange) format. Electronic invoicing capabilities are on the horizon, says GHX, based in Westminster, Colo. Accessible via any computer with a Web browser, WebDirect allows suppliers to review new and acknowledged orders on screen, respond to orders, check and update order status, and receive discrepancy alerts. Reports can be searched and sorted by several criteria, including customer name, purchase order number, line status and dates for order receipt. GHX is an electronic trading exchange with equity owners that include Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems Inc., GE Medical Systems, Baxter Healthcare Corp. and Boston Scientific Corp.
