Airfreight carrier Polar Air Cargo Inc. has received a formal OK from the U.S. Department of Transportation to serve China under a U.S./China aviation agreement signed earlier this year. The Department of Transportation awarded Polar Air Cargo the rights to nine weekly U.S.-China flights, six of which are available now and three that will become available beginning March 25, 2005. Purchase, N.Y.-based Polar Air Cargo said that upon receiving final approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China, it will provide all-cargo scheduled service between the following city pairs: New York/Shanghai, Chicago/Shanghai, Los Angeles/Shanghai, Miami/Shanghai and Anchorage/Shanghai. Polar Air Cargo is a wholly owned subsidiary of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings Inc.
