Technology development firm XCS Corp., based in New Castle, Del., has formed a new company to commercialize technology XCS developed for tracking the location of movable objects inside buildings. The company, Sky-Trax Inc., will initially target warehouse and factory operations with its new products, which will be based on the Sky-Marx Position Reference System and Sky-Trax Local Positioning System. The products will be based on optical components rather than radio-wave technology. Sky-Trax will introduce a system by the end of 2005 that can track the movement and location of all materials within a warehouse with no scanning required by material handlers, the company says. The system will be compatible with existing bar-code and radio frequency identification systems, Sky-Trax reports.
