Compiled ByJohn S. McClenahen Two manufacturers -- Dana Corp.'s Spicer Driveshaft Div., Toledo, Ohio, and KARLEE Co. Inc., Garland, Tex. -- are among the four winners this year of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the U.S. government's premier award for performance excellence and quality achievement. Operations Management International Inc., a Greenwood, Colo. water-treatment company, is the winner among service firms. And Los Alamos National Bank, Los Alamos, N.M., is this year's small-business winner. Dana's Spicer Driveshaft Div. manufacturers and markets driveshafts and related components for light, medium, and heavy on-road vehicles and for off-highway vehicles. The group has 17 manufacturing, assembly, and administrative facilities around the U.S. and in 1999 generated more than $740 million in sales, about 6% of Dana's total sales. KARLEE is a contract manufacturer of precision sheet metal and machined components for the telecommunications, semiconductor, and medical-equipment industries.
