Oslo, Norway-based Norsk Hydro -- an oil, energy, light metals, and plant-nutrition company -- will build an aluminum remelt plant with annual capacity of 60,000 tons in Azuqueca near Madrid, Spain. Construction will begin this fall, and the plant will be operating by November 2001, the company says. The plant will use aluminum scrap to produce extrusion ingot. It will serve customers in Europe, as part of Hydro's network of casthouses and remelt plants there. By the end of 2001 the company expects to have, in Europe, total casting capacity near 300,000 tons of extrusion ingots annually. Hydro also is building a new remelt plant in Henderson, Ky., which is expected to be operational in November.
