SpinCircuit Inc., a new, independent business-to-business e-commerce company formed by three electronics industry players, directly connects engineers' design desktops to the electronics supply chain. The firm was created by a collaboration of strategic partners: San Jose-based Cadence Design Systems Inc., an $1.1 billion supplier of electronic design automation products and services; Palo Alto, Calif.-based Hewlett-Packard Co., a $42.4 billion provider of computing and imaging products and services; and Singapore-based Flextronics International Ltd., an $1.8 billion electronics manufacturing service provider. SpinCircuit provides an online database of design information, including drag-and-drop symbols, featuring 2 million unique parts, with an additional 250,000 to be added each month. Its taxonomy-based component browser lets engineers perform what-if analyses and make cost-tradeoff decisions at the conceptual phase of design.
