Compiled ByJonathan Katz Solectron Corp., a worldwide supply-chain facilitator for customized electronics technology, manufacturing, and service solutions, announced that it will assume responsibility for systems configuration and assembly of IBM Corp.'s manufacturing operations in Hortolandia, Sao Paulo, Brazil for an undisclosed amount. The multi-year agreement stipulates that Solectron will provide IBM with an extensive range of integrated services, including new-product-introduction support, printed circuit board and systems assembly, product configuration services, repair services, and end-of-life product support. Solectron acquired an additional 140,000 sq ft of manufacturing capacity and offered approximately 220 jobs to IBM employees as a result of the transaction.
