It should come as no surprise that Gateway Inc. is calling upon technology solutions to help it reach a companywide initiative to reduce costs. The Poway, Calif., computer manufacturer has selected spend-management solutions from Ariba Inc. to help gain better visibility into its spend categories and to negotiate better supplier contracts, improve contract management, ensure purchasing compliance and streamline the payment process. "We're making good headway on our cost-savings plan and see our partnership with Ariba as giving us the right products," says Ed Koval, Gateway vice president of procurement. Gateway will use Ariba's analysis, category management, enterprise sourcing, buyer, contracts and invoice solutions to develop a closed-loop spend management solution. The enterprise sourcing module, for example, will be used to source direct components, Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Ariba says, while the buyer procurement solution is expected to ensure buyers purchase from negotiated contracts.
