ByDoug Bartholomew Getting the right product to store shelves when the customer wants it is the key to success in the retail industry. It's also the goal of a new software package called Vivaldi Store Replenishment from Industri-Matematik International Corp. (IMI). The Vivaldi system combines store inventory levels, consumer-demand forecasts, and point-of-sale information to generate replenishment orders to retail warehouses and third-party suppliers. As orders are processed, the software notifies individual stores of order status and delivery dates. "Retail industry research shows consumer defections are driven far more by out-of-stocks and poor service than by price or product quality," observes Richard Cardozo, director of retail industry solutions at IMI, with U.S. headquarters in Mt. Laurel, N.J. "Today's consumers expect their favorite retailers to have products they want on the store shelf and available for purchase." IMI is a developer of fulfillment and customer service software for B2B and B2C e-commerce. Some customers include British Airways, Canadian Tire Corp., L.M. Ericsson Telephone Co., Starbucks Corp., and Warner/Elektra/Atlantic Corp.
