Edward Walker, U.S. Ambassador to Israel, has been using diplomatic language to urge the country's businesses to crack down on violation of intellectual property rights. Specifically targeted are breaches of copyright for audio CD, video, and counterfeiting of software. The U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv says, "Israel has become a haven for software piracy and is rapidly expanding its exports of pirated versions."

According to the Business Software Alliance, a Washington, D.C.-based association that operates anti-piracy enforcement and education curriculums, illegal programs represent 70% of all software installed by Israeli businesses.
