German's Siemens, Japan's Fujitsu In PC Joint Venture

FRANKFURT: Germany's electronic and engineering giant Siemens announced June 17 it has joined Japanese computer maker Fujitsu in the computer business based on a 50:50 joint venture. The link-up will create Europe's second biggest computer maker behind U.S.-based Compaq. The new company will be called Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Siemens notes. The agreement foresees wide-ranging cooperation in development, purchasing, and sales to support the global activities of both partners, a statement said. Siemens and Fujitsu will transfer the major part of their European computer activities to the new company, Siemens added.
