The Alliance to Save Energy, Washington, will award Armonk, N.Y.-based International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) for its leadership in energy efficiency on June 16.

"IBM has been a leader in energy efficiency for more than two decades," says David M. Nemtzow, president of the Alliance to Save Energy. "We are pleased to recognize the company with this award and salute the breadth of IBM's focus on energy efficiency and the outstanding results of its programs."

IBM produces energy-efficient computers that meet or exceed the goals of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star program. Over the last 10 years, IBM has conserved about 8.2 billion kilowatt hours of electricity -- enough to power 1.4 million average homes for a year. IBM's efforts also have saved the company about $525 million, equivalent to 69% of 1997 yearly dividends paid to IBM shareholders.
