At Johnson Controls Inc., employee teams will be singing, dancing, and acting to present proven problem-solving practices they have started at their facilities. Their activities are part of Johnson Controls' Team Rally '99, an employee involvement program that gets underway this month to share manufacturing best practices. The Team Rally event is a worldwide competition among Johnson Controls locations. Teams of 10 people perform skits to demonstrate their facilities' best practices. Competing teams are evaluated by a panel of plant managers and company executives, and can progress through three levels of competition. The world finals will take place in December at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. "In addition to productivity and quality improvements, Team Rally has been incredibly successful from an employee morale standpoint," said Brian Koop, vice president and senior executive for the Johnson Controls Leadership Institute, which sponsors the event. Last year's Team Rally world champions performed a skit that highlighted improvements made on a rear-seat frame business project, which generated annual savings of more than $6 million for Johnson Controls and its customers, the company says. Milwaukee-based Johnson Controls manufactures automotive systems and facility management controls.
