Compiled ByTravis Hessman Du Pont & Co. has expanded its business with the formation of a new unit dedicated to fuel-cell technology, dubbed Du Pont Fuel Cells. The addition is an effort to tap into the emerging proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel-cell market, which Wilmington, Del.-based Du Pont expects to become a $10 billion market by 2010. The company says Du Pont Fuel Cells provides the business platform from which to develop and commercialize technologies from the company's Fluoroproducts, iTechnologies, engineering polymers, corporate research and development, and Du Pont Canada organizations. The new unit will focus on PEM fuel cells used in portable, stationary, and transportation applications. The company opened a multi-million-dollar fuel-cell technology center in 2000.
