More than 53% of corporate executives from multiplant companies say their organizations are planning to construct new manufacturing facilities in the next three years, according to a survey of 80 executives conducted by the Hart Corp., an international industrial real-estate broker, and Fantus Consulting, a division of Deloitte & Touche LLP. But it looks as if the planned building action is actually the other shoe dropping: 62% of the executives say their companies had closed an average of three facilities over the last three years, primarily due to operating costs, outdated facilities, and changing product lines.
