Paxar Corp. says its new RFID (radio frequency identification) Implementation Kit contains everything a supplier needs to comply with Wal-Mart's upcoming requirement to provide shipments with RFID encoded labels. The kit includes: a Monarch 9855 RFID bar code printer/encoder; Monarch RFID labels; 12 months of Paxar's Technology Investment Protection program, which offers on-site upgrades of the Class 1 technology to keep suppliers up-to-date with evolving technology; 12 months of on-site service and technical support; RFID reference guide and programming manual; and sample RFID compliance formats with download software. According to White Plains, N.Y.-based Paxar, the Monarch 9855 printer/encoder performs a "live" test of the RFID chip, encodes it within the label, prints the bar code and readable data, and then verifies that the information is correctly "written" to the tag.
