The American Apparel Manufacturers Assn. and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have published a new business guide that explains labeling requirements for textile and wool products. The guide, Threading Your Way Through the Labeling Requirements Under The Textile and Wool Acts, provides answers to government labeling requirements and examples of correct labels, including labeling mandates for fur products. The guide is available on the FTC's Web site in the Business Guidance section. The FTC also has set up a new phone line (202/326-3553) that provides information about labeling requirements, and the registered identification number (RN) system for manufacturers. Containing more than 100,000 entries, the RN database is also available on the agency's Web site. The FTC requires an RN number on all labels of textile, wool, and fur products.
