The sweeping economic and social transformations brought about by the U.S. interstate highway system are explored in Divided Highways, a 90-minute documentary that will air on PBS this fall. Modern highway experiences are combined with archival footage examining the construction of highways, the planners who conceived them, and the workers who built them, as well as the cities and towns that flourished or died in their wake. The film was underwritten by Roadway Express and produced by WETA-TV, which also produced Ken Burns Baseball and The Civil War.
