BASF Coatings reports that it will invest several million dollars in its Tultitlan, Mexico, manufacturing site to double that site's annual output of automotive OEM coatings by 2003. The company says it will acquire more efficient production equipment, including dissolvers, grinding mills, mixing vessels, and closed vessels for small batches, and implement various organizational measures to halve lead times in some production processes. Currently the Tultitlan plant produces about 7,500 metric tons of OEM coatings annually, primarily for General Motors, Ford, Nissan, and Volkswagen. BASF Coatings is a division of global chemical manufacturer BASF AG, Ludwigshafen, Germany.
