Businesses Staying in Northern Ireland

Violence is flaring up again in Northern Ireland. But several North American and Japanese firms--including Du Pont & Co., Seagate Technology Inc., Fujitsu Ltd., and Bombardier Inc.--say they are not re-evaluating investments. All are among 32 companies planning US$830 million in plants and marketing operations at Belfasts Springvale Business Park. U.S. managers stress that their factories in Northern Ireland have never been targeted by terrorists.
