Robert J. Eaton, chairman and CEO of Chrysler Corp., has been elected chairman of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). His two-year term, which begins July 1, will focus on the need for technical literacy.

"Our primary goal during the next two years will be to draw attention to the national need for well-trained engineers," Eaton says. "Students are lacking in technical literacy. This country cannot afford to overlook this problem any longer, especially as our society becomes increasingly dependent on technology."

NAE is an honorary society chartered by Congress to advise the federal government on engineering issues.
