Small to midsized companies wishing to increase electronic storage capacity can do so with Gateway Inc.'s Gateway 840 SATA RAID Enclosure, a 2U rackmount appliance that attaches directly to servers. Built to fit any rack-optimized server environment, the solution features storage, reliability and expansion capabilities that serve as spillover storage or as a key component in a SAN (storage area network) or NAS (network attached storage) for large-volume storage supporting e-mail, database, CRM, ERP and file-sharing applications. The Gateway 840 supports up to 12 hot-swappable 80(2), 160(2) or 250GB(2) SATA drives, scaling up to three terabytes of data. Additionally, the device uses an Ultra-320 SCSI interface to the server and has a built-in RAID controller (supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50), redundant hot-swappable fans and dual redundant 350-watt power supplies.
