National logistics provider NFI, based in Vineland, N.J., reports that it has reached an agreement to purchase Core Carriers, a privately held truckload carrier based in Jacksonville, Fla. NFI is making the purchase through its NFI National Freight affiliate. With this purchase, National Freight gains a fleet of 350 tractors, 200 of which are company owned, and 900 trailers. "Core Carriers' customer base includes only a minimal overlap with NFI customers, so increasing the density of our routes in the southeast enhances our ability to serve both Core Carriers' and NFI's customers," says Jeffrey Brown, National Freight president. The acquisition, expected to close at the beginning of October, expands the NFI fleet to more than 1,700 tractors with 2,000 drivers and more than 5,300 trailers. NFI companies include NFI Interactive Logistics, NFI National Distribution Centers, NFI Contract Manufacturing and NFI Real Estate.
