Reducing the need for on-site visits by experts is the objective of a new Web-delivered implementation-consulting service provided by the Baan Corp. to third-party software providers and to Baan's ERP-software customers. The program allows users to tap into knowledgeable resources in an online "chat" format, drop off implementation questions through an Internet-based mailbox, and purchase customized implementation tools electronically. Charges for consulting advice and tools are on a per-use basis. According to Baan, the system, currently in pilot testing, will be up and running by the end of the year.
