Ridgefield Park, N.J.-based Samsung Electronics America Inc. has been named 1998 ENERGY STAR Monitor Partner of the Year for the third consecutive year by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Winners of the award are selected based on the incorporation of energy-efficient technology into its products, thereby cutting excess energy consumption.

Samsung meets the EPA's criteria for energy efficiency with its SyncMaster monitor line, which has a four-stage power management system. The system's sleep mode allows monitors to power down in order to reduce energy consumption. Samsung also endeavors to stimulate the market demand for ENERGY STAR monitors by using the logo in its advertisements and product packaging.
