Straightline Source, the technology-enabled steel distribution division of United States Steel Corp., Pittsburgh, hopes to improve steel customers' experiences with the introduction of expanded services and enhancements to its Web site. New services include SteelOutlet, which is designed to promote excess prime steel. Customers can scan excess prime steel offerings in master coil and processed sheet or coil form for a preset price. Orders are completed offline. StraightEdge, a suite of online contract and inventory tools, has been enhanced to provide better visibility of inventory supporting pre-production processes, the company says. Customers can now view their steel supply at the individual part level for "work in process," "on hand" and "scheduled to ship." They also can release available product online around the clock. StraightQuote, the online quoting and ordering service for spot buyers, offers increased delivery options. "By studying our spot customers' behavior we have learned that they desire efficient delivery planning options supported by guaranteed product availability," notes Straightline Source.
